Well, it happened. They finally let us out of the studio
Kristina Stubblefield 0:05
joined the ring, the bling and all the things team, as we head out to a local wedding show to get the real scoop from actual engaged couples in the process of planning their weddings.
Sharon Rumsey 0:16
How are couples truly feeling about planning right now? What is their biggest challenge? And what are they most excited about? We'll shoot it to you straight. The Good, the Bad and the bubbly.
Kristina Stubblefield 0:27
You got engaged. Congratulations. Happy. Yes. joyful time. Of course. Now what timelines to do lists and checklists. 100% Don't worry, you're in the right place. Welcome to the ring, the bling, and all the things. Hi, I'm Kristina Stubblefield, one of your hosts, along with my two good friends, Michael Gaddie and Sharon Rumsey. We have over 50 years of wedding industry experience between us. We have seen it, heard it, done it and found a way around it. We are here to get you from down on one knee to down the aisle. Our podcast will cover everything from you saying yes to the I do's and all that happens in between. So buckle up and enjoy the journey. Now, let's get started with this episode.
I have been so excited to talk about this, our live appearance, our very first one that we got to do. I know that wasn't that long ago. But just that feeling of being out in public. It was safely out in public as the ring, the bling and all the things and we had so many people come up to us at our very first wedding show. But I know one of the things we're going to share with our listeners, we actually got to talk to a few couples about their where they're at in their planning what they took away from the wedding show, and why they recommend people come out to a wedding shows. And Sharon, what was that experience like for you?
Sharon Rumsey 2:23
I was super excited to you know, not only what you said actually get to be out and about when we've all been on lockdown so long. But we all sit here in this room, the three of us together and we record podcast about wedding planning. But we're talking about real couples. I mean, wedding planning is about those couples that are getting married. So it was so fun and kind of eye opening to get to be actually out as the ring the blame on all the things at a wedding show and talk to actual couples that are actually in the middle of their wedding planning. And maybe pick their minds a little bit about what's important to them and what they're looking for. So I had a blast, it was so much fun.
Michael Gaddie 3:04
Well, and that's what I liked about this is because this couple is so dang cute. And they're so excited. Both of them were just as excited as the other.
Kristina Stubblefield 3:11
Now you're jumping in and talking about our Well no, no, no. But listen,
Michael Gaddie 3:15
they give you some input really good information that I wouldn't be thinking as a couple going to a bridal shower show now. And I mean, they've got some good tips. And so it's it's good listen to
Kristina Stubblefield 3:27
before I introduce you to our first couple, Mike, let's go back, Sharon shared what her thoughts was on the experience. What was your thoughts on being able to use the ring, the bling and all the things
Michael Gaddie 3:38
to tell you the truth? The first thing I thought of was, I don't know about this, but I was so excited because you know, I was excited. I haven't shared this with you all before. But when people came up and said, Oh, yes, I listen to you all the time. That floored me. And I'll be honest with you, I won't say it is you know, we were there as the ring the bling and all the things Sharon's got her business, I've got my business. But I mean, so many people after listening to us on this podcast, already knew what we did. And we were able to you know, reach out with with to them with our business also besides the ring, the bling. So I mean, it was great.
Kristina Stubblefield 4:12
Well, and I think I was also surprised at how many people was like, I just listened to the latest episode, or they actually quoted things that we had talked about, you had to listen to our episode to say what they said
Sharon Rumsey 4:27
I completely agree because like I said, the three of us sat in a room and in Christina studio and we record the podcast so like to actually have You make it sound awful boring. Right, but to actually have somebody come up and not just one person but a lot of people and say, Oh my gosh, I love the podcast. I listen. I was like yay, somebody
Michael Gaddie 4:49
like a movie star
Kristina Stubblefield 4:51
in the vendor's vendor that I didn't even know that they listened. Yeah.
But not only that, they listened but The quality of the content and how the topics that we were talking about, that we took time to really dive into them, not just kind of glaze over them. But you know, to tackle them. You know, wedding planning is supposed to be fun. But it's also serious. There's a business side to it, and you're trying to make great decisions. On such a momentous occasion.
Sharon Rumsey 5:26
I left there on cloud nine. I know,
Kristina Stubblefield 5:29
we didn't, we didn't separate after that. Remember, we had a party going.
Sharon Rumsey 5:32
But I, I just felt really thankful for the two of you and the podcast and the progress that we've made. Really, really thankful that real life people are really listening. Well, it just felt really, it was a good day. And then when we did start recording,
Michael Gaddie 5:48
the couples that we did, I mean, everybody gathered round and was listening. It was just
Kristina Stubblefield 5:54
crazy. We were on the spot. We were on the spot. spot. Okay, we're not gonna Hojun
Sharon Rumsey 5:58
it not knock my microphone over during that for the record. I did not usually
Kristina Stubblefield 6:02
she always does. But when she was in person, she had a good hold on her microphone. So let me introduce you to the first couple. This couple. Do you all remember this couple? Oh, my gosh. He even stepped away from the microphone, because there was some things she wanted to share with us, but that he didn't know about. So Shawn Tez if you're listening to this, you're going to need to stop right now because she shared some things with us that she doesn't want you to know about until wedding day. But Mike, you remember them? Oh, yes. Oh, yeah. He talked about some topics that we really didn't really that's a truth.
Sharon Rumsey 6:43
Yeah, true. Well, and Shawn has had some opinions, too. I mean, he was
Kristina Stubblefield 6:46
a very involved Grimm. He really was in about the research. It was great to hear from couples, about their research about not just coming to the wedding show, but going through the paperwork that they get, doing their research online on websites and social media is really kind of eye opening. So let's, without further ado, let's hop in. And let's introduce you to Cerise and Shawn Tez. And what they had to share with us. Okay, so we're at the Meet me at the author wedding show here are being held at the Kentucky Derby Museum. And we have just found a very outgoing couple that is going to share some information with us. So tell everybody your names first. Let's start there.
COUPLE #1 7:35
My name is Sherryse.
COUPLE #1 7:37
My name is Shawntez.
Kristina Stubblefield 7:39
Okay, now we've been here for a couple hours. It's been a lot of fun. Let's just tell everybody about what we've experienced so far.
COUPLE #1 7:46
We Marcel came here for our photographer.
Kristina Stubblefield 7:48
Okay, but why now? We got start. Where's the venue?
COUPLE #1 7:51
The venue is chandelier main event. It's off of Dixie Highway in Rockford. Okay,
Kristina Stubblefield 7:55
wow. Okay. All right. And you're catering. You're trying to figure that out? Are you gonna have our caterer
COUPLE #1 8:01
Okay, KY Kentucky catering company. We actually found them in a group on Facebook. Somebody tagged them and then we tested them out and they were really good. Prices are reasonable. It's great.
Kristina Stubblefield 8:11
Hey, Sharon, you picking up on something? She knows her stuff here. Get in shape. You know,
Sharon Rumsey 8:15
you're looking for a photographer. Did you find one? No.
Michael Gaddie 8:18
DJ? DJ, correct? Yeah, we've
COUPLE #1 8:21
photographer photographer. Yeah. So we were we saw a few different ones out there. So we're actually gonna go home and look and see which one we are. Yeah, so we're gonna go over when we get home.
Sharon Rumsey 8:32
So what has been let's talk to your sweet fella there. What's been the most challenging part of wedding planning this year?
COUPLE #1 8:42
The budget budget
Sharon Rumsey 8:45
Michael Gaddie 8:46
But you know what one thing with a budget is if you have a budget and you set to a budget, I mean it makes things plan go a lot easier.
Sharon Rumsey 8:54
You know what you've got to work with?
COUPLE #1 8:56
Yeah, she's she's done a really good job. Let's say she has done she has we're looking at between 10 and 15 was a Mac so within that, so
Michael Gaddie 9:07
Sharon Rumsey 9:08
Yeah, what what has been the most fun for you Sharif? As far as planning what have you enjoyed the most?
COUPLE #1 9:14
I enjoy the dress shopping for sure. All the things that involve me.
Kristina Stubblefield 9:19
Okay. How many dresses Did you try on?
COUPLE #1 9:23
I've only tried so I went to like the Tim for my reception dress. We're doing Great Gatsby thing. That's awesome. So I found my dress there in Lexington are the first time the first try it has everything in it that I need to go with the theme. Awesome. I'm just trying to find a ceremony dress. So I've been looking at different bridal shops here. That's been the hardest thing because we only have so many here. There's not many bridal shops.
Kristina Stubblefield 9:46
Do you have something in mind that you're trying? Do you have a Pinterest board and you're trying to find some don't
Sharon Rumsey 9:51
give away everything to the ground? No, I
COUPLE #1 9:53
know because you don't want to know everything but i am i'm looking take your headphones off for
Kristina Stubblefield 9:57
just a second there. Please. No Okay, there we go. Now step over there and we'll call you back here in just a minute now let's get the soup give it so what
COUPLE #1 10:06
I really want to go for as far as like my ceremony dress is floral because that's what I'm going for. I want it to be like more so neutral calm, so pretty florals and greenery and then at the nighttime you know, we do the party in as far as the Great Gatsby a different theme. So as far as my smile ceremony dress, I want to do like you know, a little show. floral seethrough is like kind of what I'm going for, like,
Kristina Stubblefield 10:32
you have to promise you're gonna send us a picture. I will I will. Okay, now, you can come back in here now. We'll let you back in. He's like, he's really doing it. He
Sharon Rumsey 10:40
walked away. And every that's a good grim he takes direction. Well,
Kristina Stubblefield 10:44
I know you got some questions.
Michael Gaddie 10:45
I got a question. So since you're changing clothes for the reception, tell us I know. You've got to change your jacket or something. Right?
COUPLE #1 10:53
So um, yeah, I'm looking for a jacket. I did see a venue. Oh, come back here. All right. Sorry. I didn't see. There was a venue there. Not a venue Lord, our vendor, a vendor. There we go. Vivi. There was a vendor that does custom jackets. So I'm looking into doing that. I have been trying to look online, but you know, I am kind of slim. So it's kind of hard to find. jacket said possibly fit me. So we have changed the color a couple of times as well. So just trying to figure out what what goes with like black and go because her dress she told me at least What color was so it is a white dress. So
Sharon Rumsey 11:32
are you guys gonna do a first look?
Unknown Speaker 11:35
Oh, good question, Sharon.
COUPLE #1 11:37
So as Are you talking about as far as like the reception? Are we going to come in with the first look and then change out?
Sharon Rumsey 11:43
No. Is he going to see you before you watch?
COUPLE #1 11:47
The videos where they show where she's turned where you're turned around? And then I tap your bag? And then
Kristina Stubblefield 11:52
something they haven't maybe decided yet, Sharon? I haven't decided that you want to sit? Do you want? Do you know if you want to see her ahead of time? Or do you want? You want all that emotion when you see your come down the aisle?
COUPLE #1 12:05
I think he's gonna say going away.
Michael Gaddie 12:07
I would. I want to
COUPLE #1 12:09
Yeah, I think that's what I want to do too. Because then it just takes the excitement away from when he first sees me when I walk down
Sharon Rumsey 12:14
trees. Let me tell you something. I have figured this out if you want those really big emotion pictures of your groom, you know where he just loses it. Let him see his grandma, his mama come down out. By the time he gets to you, honey, he's he ain't worth nothing he is.
Kristina Stubblefield 12:33
He is. Don't make it through those vowels. Yeah, you better go with the just that the I do's
Sharon Rumsey 12:38
and she is so pretty to you're gonna be a beautiful bride. Thank you. So
Kristina Stubblefield 12:41
and the thing about it. What Sharon mentions is a lot of times when we see some of those pictures, those expressions, you know, you can't. Those are so raw emotions, and that those are memories that are priceless. Yes, that and not that you don't get some of that with a first look. But I think when you're coming down the aisle, and there's all that that Sharon just mentioned, the motion
Michael Gaddie 13:03
is real. It
COUPLE #1 13:05
happens. Yes. In the moment. Yes.
Kristina Stubblefield 13:07
Yeah. Let me ask you a question. You're here. We're live at our wedding show. What what are three things that you would encourage people what are three things that come to your mind about coming out to a wedding show? As long as it's safe? Now, what are three things that you would encourage people out there listening that are engaged,
COUPLE #1 13:25
I mean, everybody's going to definitely try to pull you towards them to go with them. But when you go and look at all the vendors wait by the time that you make it home I will look over and kind of weigh out your options as far as like pricing and look into the quality don't just go and choose one right off the bat good. You may get at home and then you're like oh wow, I chose this place but then I really liked their quality and their pricing. And then you went ahead and already but
Sharon Rumsey 13:50
no big decisions at the show show right
Kristina Stubblefield 13:52
and I know why I asked you for three but let's talk about that for just a second. When you go home to do your research, you've got a packet of information what you get at most shows right? How do you do your research what are your all's go twos.
COUPLE #1 14:05
So as far as like I look over I as I leave the photography and the video to him because he's into music and he does video so he knows exactly what to look for as far as that but as decor as far as the course and if I like the way that it looks then I'll I'll go over like the looks and then I'll take the price into him let me know if it's a goal or if it's not,
Kristina Stubblefield 14:27
do you search out website or social media
COUPLE #1 14:30
or social we'll go click on all of the social medias everything yes videos I go and watch different YouTube videos all day Facebook videos all day is so much
Michael Gaddie 14:40
good information for us. Yeah,
Kristina Stubblefield 14:42
so is Facebook, Instagram, YouTube. What's your all's go to Pinterest? What is your top? Oh, he's
COUPLE #1 14:49
got something to say about say about this study. We go above average, but for the average person I will tell you it will be Facebook and YouTube.
COUPLE #1 14:59
Yeah. So I, I watch YouTube all day long like so his breaks, he'll come in because he works from home. So he'll come in, and then he'll get a little glimpse of it. And then we'll watch him when he get off all day. I know he's probably tired, but I was
Kristina Stubblefield 15:12
busy. So that's really interesting. It's good to hear that feedback. Okay, so we said three things. And so we said, One, what's Is there anything else you would say for engaged couples?
COUPLE #1 15:23
What was the question? And I'm sorry,
Kristina Stubblefield 15:24
three things that you have taken away from the show that might be good for people listening, engaged couples that are listening,
COUPLE #1 15:31
if there's multiple ones in your city, then I would definitely go to as much as you can, as many of them as you can. Because different there's different things that different ones like, this is my first time ever meeting you guys. And I really, really enjoy this so awesome. As far as Yeah, I would definitely try to get to as many of them as possible, because then there's different things at different ones. Like I've met different photographers that weren't at the last one that I went to.
Kristina Stubblefield 16:01
That's a really good point.
Michael Gaddie 16:02
Very good point.
Unknown Speaker 16:03
Yeah, absolutely. What
Sharon Rumsey 16:04
about our groom? What do you think is important?
Kristina Stubblefield 16:07
Well, let him finish out this top three things. Oh, now he's on the spot. Oh, come on, coming up to the representative.
COUPLE #1 16:15
Basically, those are the top two, I will also say, I don't know, honestly, because you want to make sure you want to you don't want to just pick the first person that you run across, you definitely want to sign up for any type of discounts that they have. I will say that because as their specials that they always offer within a certain amount of time, sometimes it's within a month. So you got 30 days, sometimes it is within two weeks. So the 14 day, if you sign up, you know, I've rented some people, if you save $100, or different things, I get 50% off, 25% off. So you definitely want to check that out. And that's gonna help you stay within that budget. They have travel companies who have raffles that you can win and all different things. So you definitely want to pay attention to what they're offering. So you can take advantage of different specials that they have.
Sharon Rumsey 17:06
The budget police is in this relationship.
Kristina Stubblefield 17:09
She She said that in the beginning. You know, Mike and Sharon, one other question popped in my mind. I'd like to hear from you all each. What is one thing or maybe one vendor that stood out to you all here maybe that you didn't never even crossed your mind? Or is there something unique that you all seen here? This
COUPLE #1 17:31
this is I really like this? Well,
Michael Gaddie 17:34
thank you so much.
Kristina Stubblefield 17:35
Yeah, thank you all for taking time. We mentioned some to you all about this. We'd love to have you all come in and really dig deep down into your all's wedding planning. Because I really feel like you have done your homework Sharon, would you agree cuz Mike won't sit back where I can see you. So Sharon, I'm we're the blind leading the blind in this one.
Sharon Rumsey 17:54
Yeah, we would love to have you guys on for a whole episode and just talk about what you've went through planning your wedding and what your thoughts are we learn something every time we have actual bride and groom's on.
Kristina Stubblefield 18:04
Yeah, definitely, we
COUPLE #1 18:04
definitely would enjoy doing that.
Michael Gaddie 18:06
Thank you all so much
Sharon Rumsey 18:09
for being our guest gratulations Thank you so gratulations Oh, my gosh, we are so thankful to Sharif and Shawn Tez for taking the time at the wedding show to stop by and share their thoughts and their wedding planning details with us. It means the world to us when actual listeners take the time out of their busy day to stop and talk to us. So again, just huge shout out to Sharif and Shawn Tez wishing you guys a magical wonderful wedding from the ring, the bling and all the things
Kristina Stubblefield 18:38
and we can't wait to see some of those photos and share them out with our social media people. So Sharon, we're getting ready to introduce to everybody our second couple that we got to meet that day. And this couple has been together for a while.
Sharon Rumsey 18:51
They were so much fun. And it was pretty cool to talk to them because they've been together for quite a while. And I loved that the Grimm actually shared their engagement story with us and we got to know them a little better. They were so much fun.
Michael Gaddie 19:05
So ladies, let's just jump right into it. So here everybody is Diwan and janessa. So we're here today at the Meet me at the altar bridal show here at the Kentucky Derby Museum. And we've got a guest with us here today. Introduce yourself.
COUPLE #2 19:20
Hi, I'm the one driver junior level resident on my life. Recently engaged to my beautiful fiance janessa hertz
Kristina Stubblefield 19:30
not getting that guys listen at that wording. He's got it down down.
COUPLE #2 19:35
I can't miss a beat with that one not allow. Oh yeah.
Michael Gaddie 19:38
So when is your wedding date?
COUPLE #2 19:40
It's actually further off than most people that were here. It's April the 30th 2023.
Michael Gaddie 19:46
That's okay. We are looking for 22 and 23 as we speak so
Sharon Rumsey 19:50
most people I booked up for 21
COUPLE #2 19:52
Yeah, I was set up I proposed the 24th of February and now we're here.
Michael Gaddie 19:57
Kristina Stubblefield 19:58
okay now that you mentioned that Will you share with us? How did you propose? Well, I
COUPLE #2 20:03
set up a surprise dinner. She didn't know that we had did a surprise dinner for her with a couple family members, but more people showed up that were required. And it was her birthday. So there was supposed to be a surprise birthday dinner and her family didn't know I was going to propose and half of my family already knew because they had seen the rank and everything.
Kristina Stubblefield 20:26
So they were able to keep it quiet. Oh, yeah, platinum
COUPLE #2 20:31
threats. You won't be in the wedding, anything. Well, I hate the owner. We're not the owner, the manager. She put the rain on two pieces of cake that was crossed across each other, and then put it in a little cup and had it in between the cakes. But like when she bought it, it slid off the cake. So I was just like, I already proposed that she's my daughter was right there next door. She said this is a prank mom. I'm like, No, no, it's not. And I pulled the rank out and looked at and I said, Will you marry me? She's. Wait, wait, wait, wait, hold on. Wait. I'm too drunk for this right now. To remember,
Kristina Stubblefield 21:17
but hopefully there's pictures.
COUPLE #2 21:21
In the story, I keep on hearing. I wouldn't put the knife down.
COUPLE #2 21:26
They just bought our regular food out and she had a steak because it was at Logan's
COUPLE #2 21:31
home was it? It was long horn long horn
Kristina Stubblefield 21:35
who had been drinking again, all of us.
COUPLE #2 21:38
I was very nervous.
Kristina Stubblefield 21:40
You were that's okay. But
COUPLE #2 21:43
they just gave her her her stake in her steak knife for her for it and she would not put it down at all. She's like, wait, wait, wait, am I quit waving the knife?
Sharon Rumsey 21:52
So you didn't know she was gonna marry you or stab?
COUPLE #2 21:55
I didn't know.
Kristina Stubblefield 21:56
Well, that's definitely an interesting and
Sharon Rumsey 21:59
my husband still struggles with that one. He never quite knows. Oh,
COUPLE #2 22:03
I don't either. I come home from work late. I wake up Hey, babe. They might be anybody else come
COUPLE #2 22:13

Michael Gaddie 22:14

COUPLE #2 22:20
Was there things you were looking for? We had nothing. Now we have selections out the wazoo?
Michael Gaddie 22:26
Good, good, good.
Sharon Rumsey 22:27
No all your options.
Kristina Stubblefield 22:28
You want to go home and do some research.
COUPLE #2 22:31
That that that was the plan. The plan was to come here. Get a couple values and get a couple of paperwork, paperwork and stuff with pricing. So we can go home sit down while the kids are gone. And just look through everything we can and select everything we need and what we won't. Well, I
Kristina Stubblefield 22:49
tell you what, one thing we didn't do Sharon, we didn't let her introduce herself. I'm sorry. Tell us your name. Don't be shy. My name is janessa and how long have you all been together?
COUPLE #2 22:59

Well, and hopefully you all can save some money by any detailed prizes. Absolutely. All right. Thank you all so modulation. Hush, Kieren for those couples, it just really brings back all those fields of being there live in person. I don't know about you all. But I can't wait to go and do that. Again. Just hearing it straight from these couples and how excited they are in what they learn from talking to vendors and just being able to be out and sharing the excitement of their engagement.

There is no I'm sorry, Mike. Oh, he's There's no more people oriented business and no more relationship based business than the wedding business. And just actually get to talk to couples and understand where they're at and what they're thinking, not only for our podcast, but as a wedding planner, it was invaluable to me and I am so up for it. Like, take me back next weekend, I had such a good time.
Michael Gaddie 25:22
We are going back next weekend for a show. But I tell you what my most favorite part of being doing these shows live is seeing how happy these couples are. So
Kristina Stubblefield 25:32
I, I just can't wait to it's almost like we took a little part of that and bottled it by recording it live. And being able to share that with our audience who they could have been at that show. But just to hear if they've never thought about coming out to a wedding show how beneficial it can be to meet vendors face to face, as long as it's safe. And you really need to have a good a good grasp on the personalities, how your vendor acts and Shirin, we've talked about that before. But there's no better place to do that than it well, it
Sharon Rumsey 26:11
goes back to what I just said. It's such a relational business. And you don't want to just look at pictures from a photographer and say, Oh, I love those pictures are, you know, look at pictures from your florist and say, Oh, that's pretty. You're gonna work really closely with these people. And you want to make sure that it's a good fit. You know, as far as you know, a wedding or wedding planner, I'm going to spend 12 to 18 months with my couples and we're going to, we're going to have a ton of meetings, I'm going to meet your parents, I'm going to meet your bridal party. So they have to know that they're comfortable with me.
Kristina Stubblefield 26:44
And Mike too, you want people to you want to get to know them. And you want to know what they're looking for. You want them to share their Pinterest board with you as a florist. Yeah,
Michael Gaddie 26:54
but there's no better place to meet your vendor one on one. Because basically, I always say, you know, I try to sell my product when you're selling yourself or your business. But when you're when you're one on one with somebody, you got to sell yourself, they've got to like you 100% before they even call you and say hey, I want to book an appointment with you.
Kristina Stubblefield 27:15
Well, thank you to all of our couples that took time out to talk to us. And these couples that we just shared with you. We appreciate their time, and they're sharing where they are with their planning journey, and what they shared with us.
