Let me ask you a question. When is the last time you googled yourself? It is an important question because engaged couples are making booking decisions based on the information they can find about you on the World Wide Web. In this episode, we are talking about the importance of your online presence, and how it can affect your business reputation, and revenue. 

Hi, my name is Kristina Stubblefield. For over 15 years, I have served as a marketing consultant, and coach. Also, I was once a wedding vendor. As you heard in the intro, I have a technology background, as well as marketing. And getting to marry the two together is really a unique perspective, because it provides very useful and effective solutions for many businesses, especially small businesses, as well as wedding professionals. And my topic today fits right in both of those lanes, technology, and marketing. And I really want to shed as much light as possible on this topic, because it's not discussed a lot. And in my opinion, it should be at the top of anyone that owns a business. Just the other day someone said to me, I didn't even know those reviews were out there. And even though our topic today isn't reviews, those reviews fall in with online reputation. Now you could be thinking what in the world is online reputation? So I have a serious question for you to ask yourself. And you have to be honest, that's going to be the key in making the correct changes to make an impact for your business, especially with online reputation. So here's the question. When is the last time you googled yourself? Or you could ask yourself, when is the last time you looked up your business product or service online? And now again, you need to be honest. This is one of the top questions that I ask when working one on one with businesses. Because no matter what kind of marketing you do, honestly, no matter what you do, social media, your website, it doesn't matter. Because when someone looks you up, what are they going to see? And if you don't know what's there, how can you make any changes to it? We're gonna dive into this because I'm all about statistics. a side note, I will tell you, anytime I discuss and tell people, you really need to focus on this aspect of your marketing. There's always a reason for it. And that reason, is backed by Statistics, up to date statistics, because I feel you need to know why this is so important. And these numbers don't lie when you talk about statistics out there, especially with online and digital marketing. I'm going to share with you two statistics in regards to your online reputation. 65% of consumers trust online search engines the most when conducting research on a business. That's 6.5 out of 10 Google controls 75% of global desktop search traffic. And that's why when I originally started this conversation, I said, When is the last time you googled yourself, of course, it's important to go out and look on other search engines, but 75% of the traffic is generated from Google. And when I talk about these statistics, it's not to scare anybody, I genuinely want people to realize the importance of this for their own business. If 6.5 out of 10, people trust what they find in an online search, that word trust means that they're considering doing business, just based on what comes up online. And if you don't know what that is, you need to as soon as possible because facing it head on, whether it be a negative review, maybe you have old information out there, that you could have the wrong phone number, maybe you have a different website address. It's so important to know that so you can make those changes. So are these numbers because of a pandemic? Yes? Are these numbers because everything's moving at such a fast pace to digital to online? Yes.

 

Will it keep going like this year after year? In my opinion, yes, it's because of the convenience factor, you pick up your phone. And you ask Google to find someone for you. So that convenience factor to me, is why I see this sticking around. Numbers, like I just talked about, though, make me think that this is around this day. So let's define your online reputation. Before we get too far into this. your online reputation is what is found out there on the search engines on the internet, about your business. Now, if you are your own brand, you will also need to Google your own name. One of the things that I talked to people about is the difference with your personal reputation is you've probably had some kind of personal interaction with them in person over the phone, by email, there's probably been some kind of actual interaction, your online reputation. People are perceiving that. And they don't know anything about you. They could know something about you. But some out there may not know anything about you, your business practices, or making buying decision based what's on the internet. It couldn't be completely what's on the internet, it actually could be just what's coming up in search. You want to know, what are they seeing about me to make a buying decision? Is that my best foot forward? Is that what I want out there. And yes, your online reputation, in my opinion has to do with your website. And now this is a topic that I'm going to talk about in the future in regards to a website. But I'll just glaze over it just a little bit. If you go to your website, on your desktop, as well as your phone, very important to do both. When someone calls you, when someone inquires in, you're not like, go to my website, it tells everything there is about me has some of my recent pictures on there. If you don't want to shout your website address from the rooftop, you've got to address that for whatever reason, if it hasn't been updated in a long time, if it doesn't have updated pictures, that's really important, because people could be deciding to do business with you or to not do business with you because of what's on your website, because that's part of your online reputation. And another side note to that is if your website takes forever to load, that's a problem. The reason I mentioned mobile and desktop in regards to website, more than 75% of traffic to your website comes from mobile. So a lot of times I hear people say oh my gosh, my website looks so great on desktop, and you go to mobile, and it doesn't work, you can't get to some of the pages. And that's over seven people out of 10 are going to mobile really mean that you should be proud. And you should want to give out your website address, because we're going back to people making buying decisions just based on what's out there on the internet about your business. And they're going to end up on your website. You know, I think back not very long ago, a few years ago, people would at least pick up the phone and have a conversation with you or at least send you an email or want to meet up for coffee, you know, before they made a buying decision. And I think for wedding professionals, there is some kind of communication that goes on. But they're making their decision on two or three people maybe a few more that they're interested in them being vendors at their event. They've done their research before. They've seen your online presence, they've seen what's there, they've been to your website. And in the last couple months, the number of wedding professionals that have said to me, I met with this client, and one of the first words out of their mouth was, I went to your website, and it was amazing. The pictures, I loved seeing your past events, that website really made an impression on them. So again, I'm not trying to go off and specifically talk about websites. But it's a big part of your online reputation. After a website, we can go down the hole of talking about social media channels, because when you do searches on your business, your Facebook page can come up your Instagram, now, only the link to the page will come up in the search engines. But what if they click on that link for Facebook, and they go off to your Facebook page. But a year or two ago, you started using Instagram more. So it's been a couple years, since you've posted on your Facebook page, is that gonna make a person doing research think that maybe you're not in business anymore? Because I've heard that too. What if they don't click and go over to your Instagram. So your social media channels do play a role in your online reputation.

 

And if you're not going to use one on a regular basis, you at least need to have a post on Facebook, especially pinned to the top that, hey, I do more on Instagram, you know, check me out over there is something to communicate that you just have to abandon ship, or, hey, I've got this page here with a bunch of old information. And, yeah, I'm still in business, but I haven't posted in two years. Again, it's about how you're perceived based on your online reputation. One of the things that I will share with you, one of the statistics from womply is that Walmart spent over 3 billion on marketing last year, 3 billion Amazon split 10 billion. That's a lot of marketing dollars used for digital advertising. And the reason I bring this up is the advertising dollars or marketing dollars, you do have to spend, or if you turn to organic, free options for advertising online, it makes it so important for the information you have out there on the search engines, and your online reputation to be top notch. But also to be correct, you're going to have competitors out there that are spending more money than you are on digital advertising, SEO, social media ads. And you want to make sure that places that you do come up in the search engines is your best foot forward. It's correct information. So if they do want to call you if they do want to go to your website, if they do want to email you that the correct information is there. Because if they have to jump through hoops they're moving on. There's no option for that, especially with search engines. Probably one of my favorite sayings, when I talk about online reputation is the time energy effort and money you spend on marketing online needs to be pushing out the most current information, the best pictures, the best messaging, the best website, because when you start adding up your time, your energy and your effort, there's a lot that goes into running your business and marketing your business. You want to make sure if someone lands on your information, that you get a fair shot at them doing business with you. And if your information is not correct and updated, unfortunately, you're probably not going to get that shot. So when I talk about online reputation, I have to talk about Google My Business. And I am going to cover this topic on a future episode. But I just want to touch base on it a little bit because Google loves Google. Google, my business is free. If your business is not on Google My Business that needs to be a second things you do after looking yourself up online. One of the links that I will have in the show notes will be where to go to set up your Google My Business. Google My Business is a free tool that allows you to promote your business profile on Google search and maps very important and maps. One of the other things that stand out to me about Google My Business. Now you may hear this referred to as GMB is you get to decide what shows up on your Google listing pictures logo links calm Contact information, video, you also get to do your own description. It's actually very detailed. Again, I'll have that link in the show notes where you can go if you don't already have a GMB listing. When we talk about online reputation, I think it's also important to talk about your business listings. There's more than 60 search engines out there. Although most people know the popular ones, Google, Yahoo, Bing. But there are more than 60 search engines. And

 

one of the things that you can do is run a listing report, we use a tool to run reports for business listings, and I will put a link in the show notes so that you can run your own listing report, and face the hard truth about how you come up in the search engines as well as the business listing report. Because until you face that hard truth, you cannot make changes, you cannot do better online marketing for your business. One of the other favorite sayings that I say is, you don't know what you don't know. And that could not ring true. With online marketing. There's a lot of different pieces to it. There's no magic wand to wave. Although some people may have said there is there's work that goes into it. And you can have help with that. by reaching out to someone to work one on one like I do with wedding professionals, you can reach out and have someone do some services for you. But I always tell people, don't just turn your stuff over to someone, don't lose your personality with your online reputation, especially for wedding professionals. Most of them This applies you are your business, you're the one showing up at events to do the work, don't lose your personality, don't lose yourself in your online reputation is that could be one of the best selling features. So if you do reach out to accompany or reach out to me to do one on one work, or services, you're going to hear one of the first things that I say is the most successful online marketing is a collaboration. And I hope as I wrap up this episode, that you understand why I really wanted this to be one of my first topics that I covered for this podcast, because it is part of your foundation for your online marketing, for your business as a whole, your online reputation is so important. And when I do work, I talk a lot about you know, building a solid foundation. As you lay that concrete foundation. When you start building on top of it. When you start doing ads, you start using social media, your website, all of that stuff. As you start placing blocks on top of your foundation, things don't seep through the cracks. And for marketing. What that means is money does not seep through the cracks. Because you don't want to waste any of your marketing dollars. So if you really spend the time, energy and effort and money that it takes to build a solid foundation through the process, you're going to get better results because no money is wasted. Things don't seep through the cracks have a solid foundation. And this topic to me is part of that solid foundation. Because people are making decisions to do business with companies based on the information that is available out there on the internet on the worldwide web. Thanks so much for tuning in.
